o Since 01/01/2005 the “Turkish Lira” (TL – Türk Lirasi) lost six zeros and became the “New Turkish Lira” (YTL – Yeni Türk Lirasi). When shopping, you may find some merchants trying to sell a matchbox for millions, don’t panic, it is certainly an old habit… During 2005 old liras were still in circulation, however 2006 onwards only YTLs are used, be careful not to take TLs. However, if you do, note that they can still be exchanged for YTLs by any commercial bank.
